planets, and moon,
in a sky seldom clear to witness
an alignment.
Tonight, an alignment of
Moon,
Uranus
Venus
Jupiter
and Mercury--
An alignment not to be seen again until 2040.
Mars,
visible to the naked eye,
most like earth in size,
the red planet,
signifying blood of the warrior—
the most unknown part of me
and perhaps most needed.
Moon,
Luna,
goddess Artemis,
Bride of Sol,
fundamentally connected to ebbs and floes of oceans and
humans;
darkness of its far side
never visible from earth.
I, her moonchild in birth month and mood.
planets, and moon--
Uranus—Greek god of Sky,
grandfather of Zeus,
strong leader to
Saturn.
First planet discovered by the ancients—
In my sky now linking me to the past.
Venus—
Goddess of love and beauty.
Her name a sweet play upon my lips.
No planet comes closer to earth,
as it rotates in opposite direction to the others.
So alike am I in her presented shining and elusive darkness.
Stars,
planets, and moon--
Jupiter—giant planet with
centuries’ old storm upon its surface that roars
“I am the sky king”,
overseer of thunder and lightning.
master of frightening strength—
an “almost” star,
a timeless failure to ignite into its most glorious
akin to dreams I have had to put to rest.
Stars,
planets, and moon--
Mercury—
smallest planet
and nearest to the sun;
name of one of earth’s rarest minerals,
Greek god Hermes, protector of humans,
Conductor of souls into the afterlife—
Perhaps a traveler I have needed all along.
